Aren't deadbolt locks enough protection?

No, most can be easily kicked in due to the wooden door frame splintering.  Glass on windows and doors can be easily shattered for quick entry.  Deadbolts are also subject to picking, drilling, and key bumping.

Are security systems effective?

There are drawbacks. Telephone wires can be cut, so that alarm calls do not go through. Another problem is that they may recognize an intrusion only after glass is broken; that allows an intruder to bypass the detector by cutting a hole through the glass and sliding through.
As published in FBI law enforcement bulletin, "Home invaders do not have to overcome residential alarm systems because most systems will not be activated while the residence is occupied."  Finally, 98% of calls are false alarms, and the homeowner may be charged a fee for them.

Why are Mississippi Ironworks locks secure?

What about fire safety?

Window guards have escape locks which are easily accessible from the interior only.
